The application of the Intergovernmental Project of National Key Research and Development Program submitted by Prof. Yandu Lu in SCBE has been approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China. The project aims to support Chlorella metabolite manipulation and functional food development.
From 2017 to 2020, Yandu Lu hosted the Key Project of Department of Natural Resources (the total investment is 42 million). The overall objective was to conduct a ‘cradle-to-grave’ assessment, from selection of region-specific strains to sustainable end product development. SCBE, with collaborators from Chinese Academy of Sciences and enterprises, evaluated the viability of microalga-derived multi-product technology and develop microalgal biotechnology in industrial scale in tropical zones for various end products including aquaculture, food, and value-added chemicals. The project realized more than 200 million sales and got two national standards and 41 patents at crucial technology and engineering systems. Current Intergovernmental Project of National Key Research and Development Program supports SCBE to further explore the profitability of microalgal technology for functional food development and CO2 capture.
